Nurse's Office

Gaby Frey, RN

I graduated from Austin LBJ High School in 1999 and Southwestern University in 2003. I wanted to be a nurse or a teacher. Little did I realize that I would get to be a nurse and work with amazing teachers every day!

To start my path, I was a teacher outside of Fort Worth, but I soon realized I missed my hometown too much and returned to attend ACC. I got my degree in  Emergency Medical Services, with  Paramedic Certification, graduating in 2009. I worked in many schools in AISD as a School Health Assistant for 6 years. In 2017, I completed a 1-year Accelerated Nursing Bachelor’s program to become a nurse. I did my nursing residency at Dell Seton Hospital, but I quickly realized I missed school nursing too much and applied at DVISD, where I was hired to be a traveling sub.

In 2019, Hillcrest had an opening, it was offered to me, and since Hillcrest is my favorite school, I immediately took the position! I have been here ever since! It has been a winding road, with many different experiences along the way, to get to Hillcrest, but I love being a Hawk! I love being here, working with the wonderful staff and the incredible kids!

In my free time, I enjoy reading, hiking, looking for rocks, and playing with my two dogs, Kai and Dobby. I also have two silly cats. I have a fish tank as well and a garden at home that I love to tend to. I enjoy working with the after-school LEAD program where I lead the gardening club. I get to garden with the kids and talk about vegetables, dirt, and worms! It just might be the highlight of my week! My philosophy is "If there is a problem, the only way to truly solve it is through education." I get to live my philosophy every day working here at Hillcrest!

Juana Maria Duque, Traveling Assistant

I recently started working with DVISD as a nurse aide. I’m a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) . Some responsibilities of a CNA are providing first aid to students and staff for minor injuries, recording symptoms of sick students, giving medication, providing emergency care when needed and performing health screening of students. CNAs perform important tasks under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.

I was born and raised in Austin TX. I come from a big family of 7 sisters and 4 brothers. I'm happily married and have a son named Yoel. He is 6yrs old.

Some of my favorite things to do are spend quality time with my mother, take my son to the park, play volleyball, go to the beach and watch my husband play soccer. My favorite food to eat is chinese food. A goal of mine is to keep students healthy and ready to learn.
